Ranma ½ is about a teenage boy who turns into his female equivalent when splashed with cold water (of any temperature). The series is characterized by martial arts action, dramatic romance, hilarious comedy, and the supernatural.
While training in the Quinhai province in mainland China at a legendary training ground named Jusenkyo, teenage martial artist Ranma Saotome and his father Genma accidentally fall into one of the many cursed pools that comprise Jusenkyo. Ranma falls into the spring of drowned girl and Genma falls into the spring of drowned panda. The curses are activated when they are splashed with cold water. This can be reversed by warm to hot water, but only until they are splashed with cold water again. On top of this, when Ranma was a child Genma and his best friend Soun Tendo had arranged for his daughter to marry when they were old enough to carry on their martial arts schools. After returning to Japan, Ranma is paired up with the youngest daughter, Akane Tendo, in spite of his and her mutual reluctance. The two however encounter additional challengers and suitors, which results in the creation of a complex series of relationships.
